Lucas Torreira Enjoying Life In Spain And Why He Failed At Arsenal

Lucas Torreira admits to language barrier being a real problem for him at Arsenal.

The midfielder’s two years at North London saw both highs and lows that ended in him leaving for Atletico Madrid last summer.

Torreira has been enjoying his football since, tying to the ease of communication he currently has with his teammates and coaches.

“This affects me a lot,” Lucas Torreira told AS. “I have two Uruguayan colleagues, a Uruguayan teacher, an Argentine coaching staff and language is an important factor, too.

“I was in England for two years and that issue cost me, beyond that I was taking classes. I know that I came to Atletico Madrid, a club with a lot of hierarchy that fights important things, that also influenced this decision I made.”

Atletico did not get a buy-back clause inserted into Torreira’s loan deal but the 24-year-old might have played his last game for Arsenal. He could never really regenerate the same form he showed early into his Arsenal days under Mikel Arteta.

And now that the Gunners have signed Thomas Partey, the Gunners will be prioritizing more attacking-minded midfielders next. Torreira will find it hard to break into this Arsenal side next season even if he hits his best form in Spain.
