Arsenal facing stiff competition for Martin Zubimendi

Martin Zubimendi reportedly regrets his decision to join Arsenal and remains eager to secure a transfer to Real Madrid.

Zubimendi Urges Arsenal to Sell as Madrid Prepares Offer

The Spanish midfielder moved to North London in the summer of 2025 only after the Spanish giants failed to follow up on their initial interest.

While Arsenal secured his signature, sources indicate that Zubimendi always preferred a return to Spain.

Former Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso specifically requested the club sign Zubimendi, but the board rejected the idea, claiming they already possessed sufficient midfield depth.

That decision has backfired. Madrid now struggles in the center of the park and has opened the door to correcting that error by pursuing the midfielder in an upcoming window.

According to Football365, Zubimendi remains open to the move and wants Arsenal to agree to a sale if Madrid intensifies its interest.

Despite his lack of regular playing time this season, Mikel Arteta still views the World Cup winner as a vital squad member.

The Arsenal manager has no desire to lose him, especially given his proven ability to perform at the highest level.

This stance complicates any potential January deal. Arsenal has little incentive to approve a mid-season exit while Arteta values the player’s presence.

However, Madrid’s renewed pursuit creates uncertainty. A summer departure appears far more likely than a winter move, as Arsenal would need time to assess options and find a replacement.

Arteta hopes Zubimendi can earn more opportunities and prove his worth.

Yet, if Madrid submits a serious offer and the player continues to favour a return to Spain, Arsenal may eventually face a difficult choice: keep an unhappy star or accept a substantial fee.
