Matteo Guendouzi reveals what made him join Arsenal

The midfielder has been very impressive this season

Arsenal completed the signing of 19-year-old Matteo Guendouzi from Lorient in the summer transfer window. He signed for a fee reportedly around €8 million plus bonuses.

The Midfielder was the Gunners fifth signing this summer under new manager Unai Emery. The other signings were Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus, Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund and Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria.

The France under 20 International started his career with PSG before moving to Lorient in 2014 and made breakthrough with them in 2016 but the club was relegated that season. The player impressed in Ligue 2 last season, made 21 appearances in all competitions.

He has featured in 5 out of 6 Premier League games so far and has been one of the stand out players for the Premier League giants,  claiming the club’s player of the Month award for August. After losing first two games against Chelsea and Manchester City, they have won 4 in a row as they are adapting to the methods of the Spaniard.

Guendouzi has revealed that his love for club’s legends Thiery Henry and Patrick Vieira helped him to join Arsenal.

“Growing up, I watched other teams and I fell in love with Arsenal. I wasn’t really interested in posters but I saw many, many videos,” he told L’Equipe.

“Players like Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira made me love the club and I dreamt of going there.

“When I see the Emirates and the statue of Henry, I think back to those videos. From the moment Arsenal made an approach, everything was clear for me.

“I’m not going to lie, I thought it would happen later in my career. But joining such a club at 19, any player would like that.”
