Mesut Ozil will be spectacularly dropped from Arsenal’s Europa League squad for the season, as per reports.
Sokratis might also face the same treatment in order to make the quota of homegrown players in the competition.
Arsenal fans were hoping to see Ozil at least be used in the 25-man squad roster for this year’s European games. With the German earning the highest salary, they at least hoped to see some involvement in cup games. He still has ten months left in his contract and has been training with the first since last season ended.
It is no secret that Ozil and the Arsenal hierarchy have serious bad blood between them. First, there was the issue of refusing to take a pay cut and on Tuesday, the German went up against the club on a social issue. He went public with his intent to pay the club’s official mascot’s salary after he was relieved of his duties this week, in the process hurting the club’s goodwill amongst the fans.
That will hardly go any way in mending the relationship between both parties and Ozil might never appear for Arsenal again. Sokratis was close to leaving the Emirates this summer but a move could not materialise due to his high wages as well.
