Say what you will about Mesut Ozil’s salary – the man himself is a class act.

On Monday, Arsenal had to announce that they had removed their mascot, Gunnersaurus who had been in the job for 27 years at the club. It was a stone-cold move from a club known for their cultural heritage.

What made it worse was their million dollar deal announcement of Thomas Partey later the same day.

It seems now, Mesut Ozil, has stepped up to make the best assist of his Arsenal career, by saving Gunnersaurus his job!

On Twitter the German midfielder posted: I was so sad that Jerry Quy aka our famous & loyal mascot Gunnersaurus and integral part of our club was being made redundant after 27 years. As such, I’m offering to reimburse Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player…”

The club and the player have been at loggerheads for a long time now. The matter got out of hands, when their highest earner Mesut Ozil refused to take the wage cut after the club failed to show any details of where the money would be redirected during the pandemic.

The philanthropic midfielder is now on the verge of yet another possible showdown with the club as they are unlikely to take Ozil’s public gesture nicely. What might come out of this feud, is an innocent man committed to his job for 27 years might get his life back!
