David Raya has been preferred over Aaron Ramsdale by the Spanish coach.

Summer signing David Raya joined the Gunners on a season-long loan from Brentford and has displaced Aaron Ramsdale to become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Ramsdale has been a key player for the North London side over the past two seasons and helped them challenge for the Premier League title last term.

The England international has made 86 appearances in all competitions, keeping 32 clean sheets for the North London side.

But David Raya’s performance has been questionable after he made two errors against Luton in the midweek game.

Manager Mikel Arteta explains why the Spanish goalkeeper is being selected over Aaron Ramsdale.

“Maybe because of the debate, but I think when you look at his form and what he’s achieved since he’s been with us, it’s been really, really impressive,” Arteta said.

“What can I say? I have three great goalkeepers. I’m really happy. I have great wingers. Some of them are on the bench but the questions are not related to them. I have to accept that.

“All our players deserve the right love and support. He has had that for sure and will continue to.”
