Mikel Arteta congratulated Manchester City for winning the Premier League.

The Gunners lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest last evening which confirmed Man City as league champions for the third straight season.

The Londoners were beaten by relegation-threatened Nottingham who secured their position in the top-flight with the win yesterday.

Arsenal had a flying start to the season and were eight points clear of Guardiola’s men at the start of April.

But only two wins in their last eight Premier League games helped Manchester City secure their fifth Premier League title in six years.

Arteta said: “Congratulations to Manchester City, they are the champions and they deserve to be champions for what they have done over 38 games. But this is a very sad day for us because we thought we could go all the way and fell short.

“I apologise. We believed we could do it but we haven’t and that is my responsibility. I am so sad because we wanted to find a way to do it. We fell short and I apologise because it’s my job and it’s my responsibility and I have to analyse this.”
