The Gunners experienced more title anxiety as West Ham rallied from two goals behind to tie the game 2-2 at the London Stadium.
Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard gave the Premier League leaders a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes, but they stumbled miserably, just as they had against Liverpool the previous Saturday.
After Bukayo Saka missed a penalty attempt, Said Benrahma’s penalty and Jarrod Bowen’s volley saved a surprising point for the hosts and further hurt Arsenal’s title hopes. After Jesus tapped into an empty net and Odegaard volleyed Gabriel Martinelli’s cross past Lukasz Fabianski, Arsenal appeared to be coasting.
However, Declan Rice gave West Ham a chance when he intercepted Thomas Partey’s shoddy clearance and squared the ball to Lucas Paqueta, who was hauled down by Gabriel and scored from the penalty spot.
When Saka came up to take the penalties after Michail Antonio handled the ball in the area, the game appeared to be won, but the England winger missed miserably. Following Thilo Kehrer’s high pass, Bowen swept in to tie the score. Relegation-threatened West Ham nearly won it when Antonio’s late header hit the crossbar.
