Mikel Arteta has delivered a worrying update on Bukayo Saka after the winger limped out of Arsenal’s 2-2 Champions League draw with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Arteta Admits Saka Injury Concern After Arsenal’s Munich Draw

Saka pulled up in the 10th minute while attempting a routine pass with no opponent nearby, immediately signalling to the bench before being replaced by Eberechi Eze.

The 25-year-old appeared to be in significant discomfort as he left the pitch, and Arteta confirmed the club’s medical staff are deeply concerned.

“They are a bit concerned. A player who has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news, but we have to wait and see,” Arteta told TNT Sports.

“It does not look good at all.”

The setback continues a frustrating pattern of fitness problems for Saka, who has struggled with an Achilles issue, a hip complaint and a hamstring injury in recent seasons.

He underwent surgery on a hamstring problem in December 2024 that ruled him out for 101 days and missed seven games last March before returning to help Arsenal clinch the Premier League title.

Despite the blow, Arsenal produced a resilient display in Germany. Eze, who replaced Saka, scored the opening goal, while Noni Madueke impressed after switching to the right flank.

Declan Rice’s late equaliser ensured the Gunners left Munich with a valuable result.

Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha praised Arsenal’s squad depth, telling Match of the Day:

“Madueke and Eze did well on the wings today after Saka came off.

They will miss his star power, but they still have plenty of other wide players who can step up and do the job.”

Arteta echoed that sentiment, praising Eze’s overall contribution.

“I think Ebs had a great game – not only on the ball, but his commitment without it. When the others come in, they really contributed,” he said.

Arsenal will now await scan results to determine the severity of Saka’s injury, with the forward’s availability for the coming weeks hanging in the balance.
