Celtic manager Neil Lennon has confirmed that the club are in a strong position over their valuation of full-back Kieran Tierney.
Tierney had a fine season with The Hoops, scoring a goal and registering 6 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.
His performances attracted interest from Arsenal who have had two bids rejected, the second one being £25 million according to BBC.
Lennon said that Tierney is a more rounded full-back compared to Aaron Wan-Bissaka whose transfer to Manchester United cost the Red Devils £50 million.
Lennon said: “We can’t do anything about what clubs do in England. “£50m for Wan-Bissaka is a lot of money and we feel that Kieran is a far more experienced and rounded full-back at this juncture in his career.
“He’s an asset for us and we do have a value for the player and we rate the player very highly.”
When asked if Arsenal were disrespectful in their valuation of Tierney, Lennon replied: “So disrespectful is the wrong word but we’re certainly not going to be pushed over in any negotiations and we’re in a very strong position with regards to a number of our assets in the team.
The club’s valuation of Kieran has not been met and until then we don’t have a discussion.”
So basically Arsenal will have to loosen the purse strings a little more if they are to land Tierney. Lennon’s comparison of Tierney and Wan-Bissaka brings in the possibility of Celtic valuing Tierney somewhere around £50 million.
