Lo and behold, Nicolas Pepe has shot up to the top of WhoScored’s Premier League’s form rankings after his last six games.
The Ivorian finished above the likes of Kevin De Bruyne (7.73), Richarlison (7.76) and Riyad Mahrez (7.70) in England.
WhoScored released the form rankings (via Onefootball) of players in the top leagues of Europe. Pepe joins Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski from La Liga, Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga respectively.
Granted, this is a small sample size to judge Pepe’s overall quality as a player but it does make your head turn. The 24-year-old’s abilities have been questioned after Arsenal paid a record sum of £72m to get him last summer.
It took him a fair bit of time to adjust to life in the Premier League, sometimes even falling in and out of the lineup. Under Mikel Arteta, like many other Gunners players, Pepe has burst into life. He has scored twice and assisted thrice in the past six league fixtures.
Arsenal are yet to win a game without him scoring or assisting since the second matchday game against Burnley. Pepe is still developing as was seen in the 1-2 defeat against Olympiacos where the winger was criticising for several of his decisions. But one thing is for sure, the talent is there. Now, it is upto Arsenal to bank on it.
