Arsenal has completed the signing of Jurrien Timber on a long-term contract.

The 22-year-old defender has penned a five-year contract with the Gunners and he becomes Arsenal’s second signing of the summer.

Arsenal has reportedly paid a €40m fee for the Dutch defender who will wear the No.12 shirt.

Mikel Arteta signed him with the purpose of transitioning him into a right-back in the new season.

Timber is expected to travel with his new teammates to the United States this weekend for their pre-season tour.

“We’re really excited that Jurrien has joined us,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said in a statement.

“He is a versatile young defender, who will fit into our system and provide our squad with so much added quality.

“Jurrien is a young player, but has already achieved so much. He has experienced what it’s like to go to a major international tournament on more than one occasion, as well as the trophies he has won with Ajax. We look forward to welcoming and integrating Jurrien into the squad.”
