Arsenal have officially signed Barcelona midfielder, Denis Suarez on loan for the remainder of the season.
The Gunners do have the option to make the move permanent next summer but are under no set obligation to do so.
The Blaugrana had initially blocked the January switch due to Arsenal’s reluctance to guarantee a purchase in the summer. However, a compromise has been made where Suarez will extend his contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2021 and make the move to the Emirates, in order to protect his value when the 2018/19 season ends.
The Spaniard made a return to the Camp Nou in the summer of 2016 after a rewarding period with Villareal. He, unfortunately, could never establish himself as a dependable figure for Barcelona and fell out of Ernesto Valverde’s favour in recent times.
The La Liga giant has already completed a £66m deal for Ajax midfielder, Frenkie de Jong who is due to arrive next summer. This makes Denis Suarez an excess to Valverde’s immediate needs, with players like Sergio Busquets, Carlos Alena, Ivan Rakitic, Arthur Melo, Rafinha and Arturo Vidal already in the club ranks.
Suarez can instead offer Arsenal a different dynamic on the offensive end. He is technically sound and has the creative juices to be impactful from both central and wing positions.
