Arsenal have officially completed the signing of Lille forward Nicolas Pepe.
The player who single handedly took Lille from 17th the season before to 2nd last season in Ligue 1 scored 23 goals and made 11 assists last season. In fact, in terms of overall goal scoring contribution, he was in the top five in Europe and ahead of Real Madrid’s new golden boy, Eden Hazard, just to put things into perspective.
Pepe has now joined Arsenal in a record deal for the club worth 72 million Pounds or 80 million Euros. The player will now join the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette in attack and the Gunners’ fans can get excited at the prospect of watching these three pacey and skilful front men get together and combine in attack.
Arsenal were reportedly supposed to have a much lower transfer kitty, according to reports leaked in the media. However, the club officials played a perfect game of poker with that news and have now shocked football world by completing a club record deal.
Pepe will know that he has a job on his hands though since the last man to make a move from Lille to the Premier League was to another London club by the name of Eden Hazard!
