He has also signed a new long term contract
Reiss Nelson has has signed a new long term contract with Arsenal but has joined Bundesliga side Hoffenhein on a season long loan. A spell in Germany is intended to aid his development and the club wants him compete for regular place in the first team during the 2019/2020 campaign.
The 18 year old told the club’s official website: “It’s my boyhood club.
“From a young age, from about eight years old, I’ve been supporting the club.
“The likes of Thierry Henry have encouraged me as well, so ever since then I’ve just loved the club and really fell in love with it.”
He graduated through the academy ranks of the Gunners and made his senior debut for the club in the Community Shield last season under former manager Arsene Wenger. He managed to make 16 appearances in all competitions, with 3 of those coming in the Premier League.
New manager Unai Emery felt a loan move would be a better option for him as he couldn’t guarantee him regular minutes this season and the Spaniard is happy for the youngster to go in search for gametime elsewhere.
The 46 year old said: “Reiss is a talented young player and we’re pleased that he has signed a new contract with us.
“This move to Hoffenheim will give him the chance to get regular high-level competition in the Bundesliga and is an important step in his development.”
