Former Arsenal captain, Patrick Vieira is rooting for Stade Rennais and not the Gunners to progress further into the Europa League.
A legendary figure at North London and one of the most important players in Arsenal’s history, Vieira surprisingly has not held back his opinions on the tie.
Understandably, the Ligue 1 outfit has the advantage after collecting a 3-1 victory in the opening leg of the Round of 16 tie. They are set to travel to the Emirates to face Unai Emery’s on Thursday night.
Vieira said, “I have not seen the games [Rennes vs Arsenal] but the result didn’t surprise me. Rennes are a really good Ligue 1 team. Offensively they are able to score against all teams in every minute of a game.”
“It’s very good that they won for French football. We are all supporting Rennes and all the French teams in the Europa League. We hope they can qualify for the next round when they travel to London next Thursday.”
Clearly, the OGC Nice manager is backing his compatriot club to make a bigger statement. With Paris Saint-Germain knocked out of the Champions League, Rennes will be the only French club to be left in either of the European cups this season if they manage to beat Arsenal this week.
