Arsenal have reportedly been offered Philippe Coutinho by Barcelona.
Expectations over the summer transfer window is rising as Mikel Arteta continues to inspire change on the pitch.
One of the names who has constantly drawn links to the Gunners has been Coutinho. His agent, Kia Joorbichan is currently negotiating a one-year loan deal where Matteo Guendouzi could head the other way.
Arsenal’s finances are in turmoil after the global pandemic and them missing out on Champions League football for the fourth season now. Mikel Arteta has stressed on the importance of making additions this summer. His team just beat two big sides in Liverpool and Manchester City this past week and expectations are starting to grow.
Joorbichan has been in close ties to Arsenal, especially with the recruitment team of Raul Sanllehi and technical director, Edu Garcia. He has brokered deals to North London before and could do the same for Coutinho. The Brazilian’s fate has been nothing short of disastrous after his dream £142m move to Barcelona.
Being written off after a season’s time, he might be keen on moving back to the Premier League. Liverpool are unlikely to sign him back, even on a loan deal. But Arteta could use a solid creative head like Coutinho to add more dynamism and attacking threat to that Arsenal midfield.
The problem would lie in his weekly wages and astronomic loan fees Barcelona might charge. Arsenal are already struggling to tie down Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a large contract. Bringing in Coutinho would only add to that pressure.
