Pundit Perry groves urges Arsenal to resist £50m bid for star goalkeeper in January transfer window
In the midst of transfer rumours surrounding Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, former player and pundit Perry Groves has stated clearly that the Gunners should resist any temptation to sell the talented shot-stopper, even if a substantial £50 million bid comes knocking during the January transfer window.
Ramsdale, who momentarily lost his starting spot to David Raya early in the season, is now recognized as a marketable asset. Newcastle has showed interest, while Chelsea’s pursue of the English international is said to be growing.
Groves, however, argued strongly on talkSPORT that Arsenal should remain firm, thinking Ramsdale too valuable to let leave, especially given his apparent talent.
“Absolutely no chance,” he said.
“‘Sorry Aaron, you’re going to stay until the end of the season. What you’ve done for the club in the past, I’ll let you go at the end of the season’. Because the reason he got David Raya is because he was worried that if Aaron Ramsdale got injured, the drop-off – we’ve seen Matt Turner tonight who was number two last season, the drop-off was far too big.
“Matt Turner was not a good enough goalkeeper to play for Arsenal. So getting David Raya, I get it, 100 percent. So there’s no way he’s going to let Ramsdale go because you’ve got two top-quality goalkeepers there.”
Despite the potential £50 million profit, Groves believes that Arsenal’s ambitions and the risk-reward estimation weigh significantly in favour of keeping Ramsdale.
Groves promotes moderation in the face of offers, emphasizing that Arsenal may wish to take cautious risks after nearly missing out on the Premier League title last season.
Groves believes that any bid, no matter how rewarding, must exceed a certain threshold in order to be considered. As the transfer story continues, Arsenal must make a key decision that goes beyond monetary benefit.
