Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has risked the wrath of Arsenal fans by admitting he will want Tottenham Hotspur to win the Champions League this season.
Spurs provided a gritty display last night against Borussia Dortmund and went on to win 1-0 on the night. It was enough for them as they had won the previous encounter 3-0. The win will see Tottenham enter the last eight stage and Seaman has said he will want Spurs to win it all should they come up against foreign rivals.
“Seriously, I swear, I would want them to win,” he said on talkSPORT. “If they were in a final against a foreign team I would want Tottenham to beat them, no doubt about that.”
“Say Tottenham were playing Bayern Munich, Barcelona , whoever – I would want the English team to win. I played 75 times for my country, I’d want the English team to win. That’s just the way I am,” he added.
The message, as patriotic as it was, did not go down well with the Arsenal fans who were obviously irritated with one of their former stars asking for a win for their local rivals on the biggest football stage in Europe.
