Emile Smith Rowe is set for an Arsenal return as both clubs stall on the youngster’s second loan spell agreement to RB Leipzig.
The midfielder spent the second half of the 2018/19 campaign with the Bundesliga outfit. Due to persistent injuries, he got to make only 3 appearances as a substitute but impressed in training enough to keep Leipzig interested.
Ralf Rangnick was excited to negotiate a second term for the 18-year-old but Arsenal were not willing to rush into any decision. Now, the Bulls are no longer willing to make a bid for Smith Rowe since they feel cheated over the last deal.
Paying out €1m for only 30 minutes of competitive football was not what they expected from the teenager and Leipzig are ready to take their business elsewhere.
This could be a positive move for the Gunners but it also a very delicate period in the youngster’s development. Unai Emery will need to handle this right unless he wants another disappointing story where the club’s academy products eventually phase out.
Emile Smith Rowe showed a lot of star potential this season and has the traits to be a part of the Arsenal senior side. However, a second year out on loan would do him a world of good.
With Aaron Ramsey departing for Juventus soon, he could also carve out a spot for himself in the Gunners first-team.
