This Is How Arsenal Can Get Champions League This Season

Ever since the suspension of Premier League till April 4th has been decided, the future of football is at stake.

Even though the suspension is till April 4th, it doesn’t seem too likely that the situation will improve. Medical experts predict that the coronavirus pandemic will reach its peak in May and June.

If that happens, it might lead to a complete cancellation of the League itself. Further, most players have contract signed till June 30th. If the league goes on longer, players will be stranded without any club to play for. Arsenal players like Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari have contract ending in June itself.

Mari might be signed on a permanent basis, most probably, but nothing is sure for Soares, along with Dani Ceballos who will probably go back to Spain.

However, possibilities of Arsenal participating in the Champions League have been mulled over.

There is a chance that the CL qualifying teams may be picked from last year’s top 4. However, since Man City is banned from CL, the top 4 also includes Arsenal, who finished 5th last year – thus qualifying for CL.

Another debate is that the UEFA ranking coefficent system favours Arsenal as the Gunners rank among the top 4 teams in the country. Naturally, if the season is cancelled, and the UEFA coefficent ranking system becomes the metric of measurement for CL qualification. Arteta’s men can then play Champions League next season.
