Last week, Todd Boehly spoke with Mason Mount in an effort to persuade him to stay despite considerable interest from Arsenal and other parties

Mason Mount’s future has been the subject of club discussions, but according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Todd Boehly had a direct meeting with the player on Friday to highlight the player’s value and the club’s wish to keep him. Some people in Chelsea now think it’s feasible that Mount will opt to stay, but that choice has not yet been made.

Ornstein adds that significant suitors like Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich are interested in signing Mount, and that Mount is likely to put professional advancement and trophies over money.

Last week, Goal claimed that Mount and Arsenal had spoken about a summer transfer for the England international. Mount is currently only under contract at Stamford Bridge till 2024 after rejecting all previous chances to sign a new agreement.

If he doesn’t extend, Chelsea will have to negotiate for his move because of their financial difficulties following their spending binge and the likelihood that they won’t play in Europe next season. Arsenal has spoken with Mount’s availability and is closely monitoring the situation. Although Declan Rice remains Arsenal’s top summer signing objective, Mount’s ability in the last third appears to make him a desirable choice.

It’s not obvious if Arsenal would like to add both Rice and Mount to the team, or if Mount is seen as a backup option in case the Rice trade doesn’t go through. Although the two midfielders might potentially play together, their skill sets are plainly distinct. But it’s still unclear if Arsenal will pay for one or both transactions.
