5. Sokratis Papastathopoulos

Sokratis is arguably Arsenal’s best defender and the responsibility he shoulders for this team is ridiculous. However, he made only 42 tackles in the Premier League in 2018/19 which is not a lot when compared to other teams. The Greek international has fully adapted to the English game and we can only hope to see him get better with a more able defensive partner.

4. Matteo Guendouzi

Guendouzi has been a revelation for Arsenal this past season. There was a reason why Unai Emery chose to shell out £7m for the teenage midfielder who had only played Ligue 2 football with Lorient before.

Guendouzi’s ceiling is boundless and he really has all the tools to become one of the top deep-lying playmakers in the Premier League. He is still a bit raw on the defensive end but he is also only 20 years old and already a starter for Arsenal.

3. Granit Xhaka

Xhaka is not particularly the most efficient when it comes to defending. The Swiss number ten is more comfortable playing off of an enforcer next to him.
