Arsenal came back from behind to defeat Aston Villa this weekend at home. New signing Nicolas Pepe scored his first goal for the club.

Arsenal’s most expensive signing Pepe has been under criticism from fans as well as from various experts. The 24-year-old has been a regular first-team player since his arrival but his performances have left people unimpressed.

It took him 7 matches (all competition) to score his first goal the club and the goal came via penalty. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was kind enough to lend him his penalty-taking duty.

However, manager Unai Emery has come to his defense and has asked for patience from the fans.

“He needs more adaptation. He is playing good but progressively we know there is going to be more performance in him to help us and I want to do now quickly the last step in the adaptation for us.

“We are working with him first for that adaptation.

“After the training now we are watching individual videos with him, also to push him to achieve the details tactically we need for him because he is playing well but also we need in our organization to be strong with every player to improve a lot,” Emery said in an interview to Metro.

Alexandre Lacazette is injured, thus this is the right time for the Ivory Coast international to step up.
