In the latest round of transfer rumours, Arsenal have drawn links with Everton defender, Michael Keane.
After years of being barraged by quality teams due to their defensive vulnerabilities, the Gunners might be finally stepping up their pursuit for a top pedigree defender.
This season has not been much different from the last in terms of the Gunners’ effectiveness from the back. However, they have improved in the league, maintaining a better spot and points tally than the last.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos’ introduction has helped in a certain way but Shkodran Mustafi has delved into a new level of embarrassment. Laurent Koscielny is no longer the same defender that he once was for the Gunners, especially after the Achilles injury.
The Frenchman is still a brilliant defender but it might be time to get an upgrade. Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in Everton’s starting centre-half as well with the Toffees reluctant to let go of their top defender.
Keane has made 31 appearances this season and has a contract set to last till the summer of 2022. He is expected to cost around £50m in the present market.
He also has 7 caps for the England national side. At 26-years-old, Keane seems to be a worthwhile investment for a club of Arsenal’s stature.
