Petr Cech is in the final six months of his contract with Arsenal and club manager, Unai Emery has refused to reveal much about the Czech Republic international’s future.
The goalkeeper has lost his starting berth to last summer arrival, Bernd Leno and since has only been considered as a second option in Cup games. Cech joined the North London club back in 2015 to escape a similar situation at Chelsea, where Thibaut Courtois had taken over the number one role in between the sticks.
Emery chose to rely on the veteran shot-stopper early on in the 2018/19 season but an injury allowed Leno to slide in and impress the boss immediately. Cech, who is now 36, still believes he is capable of playing regular football.
Despite the arrival of Leno, he stated in the past that he is ready to fight for his position. However, now that his contract is set to end by the end of the current campaign interested teams are taking notice and trying to move him this very January.
When asked about Cech’s situation, Emery said, “I don’t know now. This is a question for the club and the player to deal with our necessary things with the goalkeeper. But when he played at the start of the season, he did very well. He was very good behaviour, commitment and performance.”
