What Now For Shkodran Mustafi At Arsenal

The summer transfer deadline has passed and Shkodran Mustafi is still at Arsenal.

There were late bids reportedly made by AS Roma and Juventus but both were put down by Arsenal’s asking price of £25m.

That bit of news might not be all that true since Raul Sanllehi has proven to have more brains that to ask £25m for a washed-up defender. I mean, the man completely overturned Arsenal‘s transfer strategies with his elite business thinking and marketability tactics.

If clubs had asked for Mustafi, he would have been sold. But as David Ornstein, a reputable BBC journalist already confirmed, no one really wanted a taste of incompatibility and mediocrity.

Mustafi was destined to make the Gunners fans suffer for another season and it turns out, he will get to do exactly that. The question remains on how.

The 27-year-old has not been named in either of the 4 Premier League games Arsenal have played so far. He is not expected to return for the upcoming ones either but he might squeeze himself in the teamsheet for Europa or Cup games.

Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin is still making their way back from injury and a Europa League fixture against Eintracht Frankfurt is coming up in around two weeks time. Mustafi or Calum Chambers can be called on for cover on the right or even in a three-man back system.

For now, it is up to Mustafi to pick up the small chances he gets until January to prove why Arsenal fans might be wrong about him (long shot that). Or he might have to wait till the winter break to find a team ready to take him.
