Who Arsene Wenger Wanted To Succeed Him At Arsenal Revealed

According to reports coming out of Italy, Arsene Wenger would have liked Carlo Ancelotti to succeed him at Arsenal rather than Unai Emery.

After managing the North London club for 22 years the Frenchman expected to get the same treatment Alex Ferguson got at Manchester United, where his suggestions for a successor would be taken more seriously.

However, the Gunners decided to appoint the former Paris Saint-Germain man to lead their first team while Ancelotti set up camp back at Italy.

Now, Napoli are set to face off against Arsenal for the quarterfinals of the Europa League next month.

Calcio Napoli 24 reporter, Ciro Vienerato was quoted ahead of the tie – “Arsenal-Napoli?” said Venerato when talking about the upcoming Europa League tie.

“I’ll tell you a behind-the-scenes story dating back to last summer when Arsene Wenger indicated Carlo Ancelotti as his possible heir and successor on the Arsenal bench.

“Carlo Ancelotti, as you know, has a Canadian wife and the whole family lives in London. So he was interested.

“Arsenal then chose Unai Emery and at that point, Carlo Ancelotti signed for Napoli, but he did not forget that Arsenal rejected him.”

Could this be enough to motivate the Italian manager make a statement next month?
