Francesco Totti has backed Henrikh Mkhitaryan to be a success at AS Roma.
The Armenian international made a loan switch from Arsenal this summer after watching his playing time reduced dramatically at the Emirates.
Mkhitaryan made an auspicious move to the Gunners in January 2018 as part of swap deal with Manchester United for Alexis Sanchez. He showed a bit of promise early on but lacked the finesse of a dependably player.
Eventually, Mkhitaryan burnt himself out in the Arsenal ranks, not proving effective on a consistent basis. However, Totti believes the 30-year-old can regain his form in the Serie A.
“Mkhitaryan can bring quality and quantity, so it’s a good move,” the 42-year-old told Sky Italia. “He hasn’t always played regularly over the last two years at Arsenal, but I hope he can feel at home at Roma.
“The fans will certainly appreciate him here, as he has great technique and is eager to prove himself.”
Moving Mkhitaryan out cleared a lot of the wage bill back at North London and the player himself was happy with the move since he only 1 of the 4 Premier League games played so far.
He said, “Everything happened in the last day right after the Tottenham game I got a call from my agent. He told me that I have to fly to Rome the next day to have a medical with the team and also sign a contract. It is a great opportunity for me as I didn’t get a lot of playing time.”
