Wilfried Zaha has made his intentions clear about joining Arsenal this summer but Crystal Palace has stunned the North Londoners with an £80m price tag.
The Gunners are nowhere close to meeting that sort of asking price but the transfer saga just does not end there. Zaha’s contract is due to run till the summer of 2023 with him making around £130,000 per week.
Any sale of the winger would see Manchester United bank 25% of the transfer fee since they included that clause when selling him back to the Eagles. Right now, Palace chairman, Steve Parish is playing sticking firmly to his asking price but he is expected to cave for a lower fee soon.
Zaha is one of the most cherished figures at Selhurst Park but he is also highly sentimental. If he wishes to leave, unfortunately for the Eagles, they will have to let him.
The 26-year-old is in his prime and he wants to play in the highest level. He is not yet ready to put in a transfer request but if denied, he could force his way out.
Arsenal’s attacking lineup would be greatly bolstered by his addition but Unai Emery will have to find ways to raise funds. Right now, the defence is the Gunners’ greatest priority as they negotiate terms for William Saliba and Kieran Tierney.
