Mikel Arteta voiced his pleasure at seeing Willian perform well for Arsenal.
The Gunners won 3-1 against Leicester City at the back of two assists from their veteran Brazilian.
It was Willian’s well-versed free-kick that David Luiz got his head to and scored the equaliser. He also picked the final pass that allowed Arsenal to stretch their lead to 2-goals through Nicolas Pepe. After an entire season of underwhelming performances, Willian is finally starting to show why the manager had such faith in him.
Speaking on him, Mikel Arteta said, “He was really good, but we’ve seen that in training in the last few weeks. He is revealing himself, not accepting the situation. I think he was the player that changed the game against Benfica, and again today.”
On Granit Xhaka, the Arsenal boss continued, “Granit, a player who has played that many minutes, to play with the heart and the passion he showed in every action I think it’s a good example for the rest of the players.”
Arteta was not completely happy with his team’s output after they once again gave away an early goal.
He added, “We are still giving things to the opposition – we did it against Benfica and we did it today. It’s something we have to eradicate to give ourselves the best possible chance.
“It’s about how we played against top-quality opposition. We have to impose ourselves, it doesn’t matter who we play against, we have to have courage. I’m proud about winning but obviously the way we’ve done it.
“The way we are playing looks much closer to what we want. The way the team is evolving, we have some consistency in recent months. All the time I say the same: it’s about consistency.”
