Arsenal have reportedly opened negotiations for Ben White.
The Daily Mail claims that Brighton have slapped on a £50m price tag on White.
After impressing on loan at Leeds United in 2019/20, White has managed to take another step up at Brighton. He has gone from strength to strength to earn a place in Gareth Southgate’s final squad for the 2020 Euros.
That is quite an accomplishment from the 23-year-old who is racking up admirers all across the country. Manchester United and Liverpool are also said to be monitoring him but have not made any official bids yet.
White signed a new contract with Brighton last summer which pays him £35,000-per-week. Arsenal or any other suitor will have to offer an even more lucrative deal to prize him away from The Seagulls. Problem is, Arsenal are not thought to be cash-strapped.
After missing out of Europe for the first time in 25 years, Arsenal will have to trim down their squad quite heavily this summer. That means sweeping changes in personnel. Plus Mikel Arteta has more obvious concerns in midfield and the full-back spots which he needs to address first.
Dropping £50m on a position Arsenal are not the weakest at might not be the best solution. But then again, it could all depend on who departs the club in the following months. White would definitely be an upgrade to the options Arteta has at hand.
