Arsenal did not need Pepe: Bowyer

Arsenal fans were overjoyed when they learnt about the signing of Nicolas Pepe!

The Gunners lacked a wide man and Pepe had performed brilliantly the season before at Emirates.

Pepe has been signed by the club to identify a weak spot in the club. However, what the club did not notice was that they had a bigger hole gaping in their defence. They needed a centre back as well.

The club had no money and had to settle for David Luiz. Luiz is a talented player but never a good option for the club. He is error prone, likes to break ranks and plays without discipline.

And now Lee Bowyer, has slammed the Gunners saying that they should have gone for a defender instead.

Bowyer has suggested signing Maguire would have been a much better option than signing Pepe.

“Defensively they are frail, they concede too many goals. Their centre-halves have been a problem for years,” said Bowyer on Sky Sports’ The Debate.

“It’s not just been this season, it’s been for a while now, but they would rather spend £75million on a winger than a centre-back.

“Maguire would have been perfect for them, why didn’t they get him?”
