Arsenal Goalkeeper Close To Finalising Obligatory Move To Serie A

David Ospina is only one game away from making his loan move to Napoli permanent from the next season.

The Colombian goalkeeper is currently spending the 2018/19 campaign with the Serie A outfit. His loan deal had a clause inserted into it which would make it Napoli’s obligation to buy him out when he plays 25 games.

The cleansheet against Frosinone this past weekend was his 24th of the campaign after making 3 consecutive appearances in the league. Carlo Ancelotti has rotated both Ospina and Alex Meret in the shot-stopper position quite a bit this season.

Reports suggest that the Azzurri are happy with the 30-year-old, who has kept 8 cleansheets in his 24 appearances for the club. Carlo Ancelotti has relied on Ospina’s experience despite having a highly rated rising star like Meret.

Of course, if Napoli do decide to waive their option of signing the goalkeeper they can simply bench him for the final 4 games of the season. Hannover is doing just that with Arsenal’s other on-loan player, Takuma Asano in the Bundesliga.

Arsenal might not be against bringing back Ospina as they are set to lose Petr Cech to retirement from the next season. Bernd Leno is the club’s established starter but their needs to be an effective backup.
