Arsenal are in negotiations over a possible deal to sign Wolves star Ruben Neves as Mikel Arteta looks to bring in a midfielder before the end of the month.

Arteta has made no secret of his desire to bolster his team during the January transfer window, as Arsenal truly need reinforcements to sustain their fourth-place fight.

Arsenal’s lack of depth in central midfield has been highlighted this month, therefore Arteta is looking for a player who can compete alongside Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey, Albert Lokonga, and Mo Elneny in the second half of the season.

Neves has also been linked with a transfer to the Emirates Stadium for some time, and it appears Arsenal have increased their interest in the Portuguese international as Arteta prepares for a late swoop.

Since joining Wolves from Porto in 2017, the 24-year-old has established himself as one of the greatest all-round midfielders in the Premier League.

Wolves would undoubtedly be anxious to keep him, and talkSPORT reports that a bid of roughly £50 million would be required to persuade the Midlands club to cash-in, implying that Arsenal will have to dig deep if a deal is to be finalised.

AS Roma came close to acquiring Xhaka last summer, and according to reports, Roma are ready to rekindle their interest during the last days of the transfer market, as Jose Mourinho is still keen on luring Xhaka to Rome.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens in the next days, but it appears like Arsenal will be busy with Neves perhaps joining from Wolves and Xhaka moving to Serie A.
