It did take a fair bit of time for Borussia Dortmund to hit back at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and they seem to finally have.

The Gabon international, who moved to Arsenal in January 2018 on a £56m deal has been accused of moving only to boost his bank balance.

He did not leave the Bundesliga outfit on good terms, spending his last 6 months in and out of the team with disciplinary suspensions and several cases of missed training sessions. Arsene Wenger saw the growing distaste between the player and the club and immediately opted to give him an escape.

Aubameyang has since emerged as a star figure at the Emirates, scoring 7 goals in his past 7 Premier League games this season and also winning the Golden Boot last term. However, his inability to return Arsenal to the Champions League has given Dortmund chief something to hit out against.

“Aubameyang, who plays great at Arsenal, will probably be warm-hearted when he looks at his bank account, but on Wednesdays, will be saddened when he has to watch the Champions League on television,” Borussia Dortmund CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke told Suddeutsche Zeitung. “Some go to clubs because of this money, where they have not played Champions League for years.”
