Unai Emery Why Defender Was Absent For Manchester United Fixture

Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney has not suffered a setback in his injury recovery as reports claimed last night.

The Scotsman, who arrived at the Emirates for £25m this summer has not played a single game for the Arsenal senior side this season, yet.

He did make a promising display for the U23s last week against Nottingham Forest along with Hector Bellerin. However, Tierney did not make the squad for Monday’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United which led fans to believe that he still might not be ready.

Unai Emery explained, “He didn’t play in Manchester because he had a small problem, not important, but the doctor told us it was important for him to be here with us, preparing for tomorrow.

“He needs time, confidence, training and playing. Tomorrow is a good opportunity, he is ready to play. He will take minutes and confidence. He will be able with us to show his progress. I asked Kieran yesterday because we were waiting first for him to be with us consistently. Each step is important to be consistent.”

Arsenal are due to face Standard Liege for their second Europa League group stage fixture on Thursday. Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding are expected make the starting lineup along with Tierney.
