Arsenal's £65m midfielder is more of a squad filler

Kai Havertz will never be a regular for Arsenal.

The former Chelsea midfielder arrived at the Emirates in a £65 million deal and was Arteta’s first signing of the summer.

He scored his first goal for the club in Saturday’s 4-0 win at AFC Bournemouth.

Havertz struggled to hit the ground running after making five starts and two substitute appearances so far for the Gunners this season.

The German international will face competition for his place from the likes of Fabio Vieira and Emile Smith Rowe.

Havertz has received immense backlash for his performances on the pitch in the first few games for the Gunners this season.

Pundit Alan Shearer has made his honesty assessment of the former Bayern Leverkusen player.

“When you look at the numbers – I mean there’s definitely a player in there – but for a player of his ability, it doesn’t match the numbers. They need to improve,” Shearer said.

”You know though that you have to pay £60-70m for a squad player nowadays. So he’s going to play his part but whether he’ll be a regular or not, I don’t think so.”
