Arsenal have been dealt with an injury after Kieran Tierney limped off during their clash against Southampton.
He missed the last 20 minutes of the game and needed treatment before limping off and getting replaced by Sead Kolasinic.
The 23-year-old had earlier set up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for a glorious opportunity in the first half but the Gunners captain hit the bar from close range.
“Kieran was cramping,” Arteta told Arsenal.com. “He hasn’t played two games together in the last seven or eight months and he was suffering. The weather is different to Scotland and he needs to adapt to it.
“I think we defended really well,” Arteta added. “The second half with the way they cleared the ball away. For a long time we had to defend deeper with a lot of numbers there and we suffered, but they were in the right positions, helping either other. They were one in the line and the clean sheet always helps.
“We can have different rotations in the teams, we still have to function better when the opponent changes a few things that we haven’t talked about but overall I think they are getting the idea.
“I like players that care, that get emotional and that have a meaning and a purpose of what they are in this profession and the team showed that today. I am really really happy with the subs, because they made a really good contribution. Their attitude, they way they wanted to come onto the pitch to help their teammates, and the result. It was great so I am happy. A lot of things to improve with the ball that I am not partially happy with but we got the points and we are happy.”
