Atletico Madrid to extend contract with Arsenal target

Atlético Madrid readying new Thomas Partey deal with key clause

Thomas Partey’s performances at Atlético Madrid have led to the club growing concerned that he could soon leave for a bargain price. As things stand, the Ghanaian is under contract at the Wanda Metropolitano until June 2023, although his deal includes an appealing €50 million release clause.

Many of Europe’s top clubs, who have been tracking Partey, would have no problem paying such a fee, which has led to anxiety in the Atlético camp.

According to Goal, that has now left the club eager to tie him down to an extension, which would see his salary rise from €2.5m per season to €4.5m.

In addition, his stay would be prolonged until 2025 and a €100m release clause would be placed on Partey’s head. Talks have already opened and both parties are confident that they will come to an agreement soon.

Arsenal and Manchester United are among the clubs who have held a long-standing interest in the 26-year-old.
