Arsenal fans might be fooling themselves if they think Dani Ceballos is staying at the Emirates for good.
Real Madrid’s hesitance to include a buy-back clause on his loan agreement was the first red flag and now the Spaniard’s comments could kill any hopes of keeping him beyond June 2020.
Ceballos tried to rectify some of the comments he made earlier about being unhappy on the bench. Fans thought that was him explaining his situation at Real but instead, he explained, “My words were misunderstood. When I do not play, I don’t enjoy myself.”
When asked about his North London future, Ceballos added, “I never thought of leaving permanently. My goal is to succeed at Real Madrid. I’m going to fight to fulfil my dream.”
It is clear at this point why Ceballos came to Arsenal in the first place. He wanted to prove to the chiefs at Santiago Bernabeu that he is more than a bench player and is capable of manning a midfield line.
He is happy in the situation he is now as he said previously, “I have eight months left at Arsenal, I can only thank them for the confidence that the coach and fans have placed in me, who have already made me a song. I am very happy there and I hope to continue for a long time.”
Nevertheless, it is hard to predict what might happen by the season end. A bit of success with Arsenal and a managerial change at Real could change Ceballos’ mind.
