After a successful playing career, Mesut Ozil declared his retirement from football at the age of 34

On his social media, the former Arsenal player made the announcement. The Gunners then sent him their best wishes. Since joining Istanbul Basaksehir in the summer of last year, Ozil has been competing for them in the Turkish premier division. The playmaker agreed to a one-year contract with a one-year extension possibility.

Due to recurring injuries, Ozil has chosen to retire after the stint did not go as planned. Only eight outings have been made by the former German international since the change.

“Hello, everyone!” read a post on social media. I’m declaring my immediate retirement from professional football after giving it some thought. Prior to joining Werder Bremen in 2011 for €5 million, Ozil made his debut at Schalke 04 in 2010. At the 2010 World Cup, he made a name for himself on the international scene. He was outstanding for Die Mannschaft, and as a result of his accomplishments, he was one of the initial Golden Ball nominees.

As one of the top playmakers of his age, Ozil established himself at Real Madrid. With 25 assists, he completed his first season in Spain. The following year, he finished as the domestic assist leader while helping his team capture La Liga. In the 2012–13 season, he once again topped the assist statistics.

Before the 2013–14 season began, Ozil moved to Arsenal amid much hoopla. During his tenure, he contributed to the club’s four FA Cup victories. But the establishment abruptly ejected him from the premises. In addition, he had a falling out with the DFB, and after the 2018 World Cup, he retired. Once again playing for Fenerbahce before joining the Grey Owls eight months ago, Ozil went back to his home Turkey.
