Gabriel Magalhaes speaks out on being dropped by Arteta at Arsenal

Gabriel Magalhaes, the Arsenal defender, has finally spoken out about his unexpected benching by manager Mikel Arteta at the beginning of the season.

Despite forming a sturdy defensive duo with William Saliba the previous season, Gabriel found himself sidelined for the initial three fixtures of the campaign.

Arteta’s decision was met with surprise and speculation, but Gabriel has now revealed his understanding of the move. The Brazilian international admitted that while the process was challenging, he recognizes the manager’s intentions in making him a ‘much better player’.

‘It was tough, obviously at the start. I wanted to play and it was very difficult for me but I understood what the coach had to do,’ Gabriel told PA News.

‘It is difficult for any player to not be in the team but now I’m back in I want to keep on working hard to prove my worth.

‘He [Arteta] spoke to me and obviously explained the reasons behind the decision. Why I should stay, but the most important thing was to remain focused and concentrate.

‘He knew how important I was to the team, so I’m happy to be back and to be able to help the team in every game.

‘I’m happy to be back in the team and hopefully I can help them moving forward.’

However, it wasn’t long before Gabriel reclaimed his spot in the starting lineup, notably contributing to Arsenal’s 3-1 victory against Manchester United in September. Since then, he has firmly held onto his position in the team.

Gabriel’s remarks shed light on the inner workings of Arsenal’s squad dynamics under Arteta, showcasing a player-manager relationship built on trust and improvement.

As the season progresses, fans will undoubtedly keep a close eye on Gabriel’s performances, eager to witness the fruits of his temporary defeat.
