Ladbrokes have reduced their odds from 6/1 to 7/4 in favour of Gary Cahill getting transferred off to Arsenal.
Cahill is openly seeking an escape at the break of the new year and Unai Emery could offer him one. Arsenal are currently a bit short staffed in the centre-back position and Chelsea’s Gary Cahill seems as good a January option as any. Granted a transfer to a direct rival is often met with disapproved grunts from fans of either side but with Cahill, 32 and only receiving 21 minutes of Premier League action this season, this move seems plausible from a distance.
Maurizio Sarri has deemed the veteran Englishman excess to his needs. Last season wonder, Andreas Christensen has also found it difficult to break into the squad with David Luiz getting the nod majority of the time over him.
The Gunners were struck a major blow last weekend when Rob Holding had to be taken off in the middle of the 2-2 Premier League draw against Manchester United. He has been ruled out for the remainder of the season and Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Shkodran Mustafi are facing suspension for the next fixture against Southampton. 33-year-old Laurent Koscielny has made his return to the pitch after a long absence with an Achilles tendon tear but still has to prove his worth to the new manager.
Cahill since making his move to Stamford Bridge in 2012 has won the multiple trophies and could be the quick fix Emery needs to secure a top-four finish this season.
