How Arsenal Lost Their Shot At Signing Two Transfer Geniuses In One Week

Arsenal were in line to potentially sign either one of football’s eagle-eyed technical directors, Marc Overmars or Monchi but are now set to lose out on both.

After months of drawing links with the Gunners, Monchi decided to mark his return to his former club, Sevilla after resigning his position with AS Roma.

It was thought that Overmars would get a fair shot at going back to North London but he just got wooed by Ajax with a massive pay rise. The Dutch winger who played 3 seasons with Arsenal from 1997 to 2000 signed a new contract with the Eredivisie outfit on Monday worth £800,000 per week.

His prior success of earning the club over £220m in profit through player sales made him irreplaceable. Ajax president, Leen Meijaard said, “Marc has made a huge contribution to the club, both on the football front and financially. We are absolutely thrilled to offer him a new deal.”

Overmars explained to the press his decision behind choosing Ajax over Arsenal, “There are still plenty of challenges at Ajax and I’m having a good time here. We are taking steps with both the youth academy and the first team.”

“From a sporting point of view, we still want to show a lot. What is also important to me, is that it is nice to work with the people around me.  get pleasure and satisfaction from that.”
