Lorenzo Pellegrini's Reluctance To Leave AS Roma Favours Arsenal

According to recent reports, Arsenal are in the pole position to sign AS Roma midfielder, Lorenzo Pellegrini.

The 22-year-old’s contract with the Serie A outfit is due to end in June 2022 with a release clause worth £27m. One can see how he is significantly cheaper than most top profile young footballers in the current market.

The Gunners are destined to lose Aaron Ramsey after the end of the 2018/19 season and Unai Emery has to look for replacements. While an out-of-favour Denis Suarez is a valid option, the Spanish manager has admitted that permanent transfers are not possible at the moment.

Pellegrini is being monitored by Chelsea and Liverpool as well but the player is reportedly happy with his current team. He has contributed 2 goals and 6 assists in 15 appearances for the Giallorossi before going to a biceps femoris muscle injury in December.

His reluctance to leave Roma just yet could be beneficial for Arsenal since they do not have the immediate cash to activate a transfer. The Italian side will also be reluctant to let go of their star midfielder in the middle of the season simply on loan.

Pellegrini is highly versatile in midfield with 9 senior caps to his name for Italy. He is very disciplined with his positioning and could be the perfect replacement for Ramsey.
