Martin Odegaard opens up about the critical choice to leave Real Madrid for Arsenal

Martin Odegaard, Arsenal’s exceptional midfielder, explained candidly about his important choice to leave Real Madrid for the opportunity to join the Gunners. The Norwegian maestro joined Arsenal on loan from Real Madrid in January 2021, later combining his status at the club and making his move permanent for the 2021/22 season.

Odegaard in a interview said, “My time at Madrid was good. It was a positive stage, although perhaps some might think otherwise. I learned a lot, I matured a lot and I was able to train with some of the best players in the world. But in the end, leaving was the best decision for me, I wanted to play more and continue growing. I played with them and I enjoyed it. Maybe the opportunity came too soon but ‘It was a great experience’.

Odegaard reiterated his conviction that leaving Real Madrid for Arsenal was a decision he will never regret. He reminisced fondly on his time with Los Blancos, recognizing the importance of the transition in his football career. The move not only helped the exceptional 24-year-old midfielder, but it also propelled Arsenal into a formidable force in the Premier League.

“I’m happy with the decision I made and how it went. If I hadn’t gone through Madrid I wouldn’t have reached the level I have today. Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world and the pressure is noticeable, even if it wasn’t as much as Ronaldo, Beckham and company were there.”

Odegaard’s arrival at Arsenal was a significant turning point for the club, with his extraordinary abilities propelling him to the ranks of the league’s best midfielders. Arsenal made a switch to Premier League under manager Mikel Arteta, showing their dominance in the English football scene.

Odegaard’s influence and commitment were reinforced when Arteta given the captain’s armband on him before of the 2022/23 season. Last month, he reaffirmed his commitment to the club by signing a lucrative five-year contract, a sign of his loyalty to the Arsenal mission.
