Mikel Arteta doubts Arsenal will sign a new striker this window.

The Spaniard has admitted that the club signing a new striker this January looks ‘unrealistic’.

The Gunners have only managed to net 37 times in 20 Premier League outings so far but they lack a reliable goalscorer upfront.

Arsenal were crashed out out of the FA Cup in the third round following a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.

The club lost Gabriel Jesus to a minor knee injury before the game and Eddie Nketiah is the only natural forward in the current lineup.

Mikel Arteta explains that improving the current crop of players is high on the agenda and won’t be signing any new forwards.

“At the moment it does not look realistic. What my job is, and what we have to do is improve our players and try to get better results with the players we have,” the Spaniard said.

“What I beg from the supporters is that they are behind the team like they have been in difficult moments. Stick behind the ones that we have. They are incredibly good.

“If not then they don’t do what they’ve done today and in Anfield. Stick by them. That’s exactly what they need. Then they feel important and supported. With their attitude they don’t deserve anything different. That’s my opinion.”
