Arsenal defender William Saliba will be out for several weeks.

The Gunners are sweating on the fitness of Arsenal defenders William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu before heading into the international break.

Manager Mikel Arteta claims Saliba’s injury is not that serious but Tomiyasu’s initial assessment is not looking good.

Tomiyasu who played second fiddle to Ben White this campaign might undergo surgery if there’s any ligament tear.

“We don’t know, obviously the doctor is assessing him. We’ve had one assessment, they need to have another assessment tomorrow, but it’s not looking good, that’s for sure,” Arteta told his post-game press conference.

“Looking at Tomi, he’s not someone who exaggerates things. He was really concerned straight away, and we are concerned.”

William Saliba, on the other hand, has suffered a back problem and got withdrawn from the France squad for the European Championship qualifiers.

It remains to be seen whether both the defenders will be at Arteta’s disposal for the last crucial weeks of the season.

“We hope so, and we hope Willy is going to be better news but again we have to wait until tomorrow to understand a better picture,” he said.
