Senderos: I vomitted before Real Madrid match

In 2006, Arsenal became the first English team to beat Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, a match in which the key goal was scored by Thierry Henry, who had a great game in the company of Reyes, Hleb and Fabregas.

The Gunners then made a big surprise and the victory over Real Madrid was an announcement for the long road to the Champions League final, and the match against Los Blancos at the crowded “Bernabeu” will be especially remembered by the former Swiss national team player, Philippe Senderos.

The central defender had the opportunity to be the starter in that match, for which he says that due to excitement, stress and anxiety he vomitted on the field before the start of the match.

“That Real Madrid game, away, with an amazing Henry goal – that game was for one of my best memories in an Arsenal shirt and on a football pitch in general,” he said.

“My Dad is Spanish, from very close to Madrid so he supported Real Madrid all his life and growing up, I always looked at Real Madrid being an amazing team and a team that I would love to play for in the future.

“That game, that day at the Bernabeu, was the day that I was the most nervous in my whole entire life. I remember vomitting before the game on the field and before the ref blew because I was actually living my dream.

“Playing at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid for Arsenal that was my dream as a kid. I wanted to do that in my life and I was actually living it so that’s one of my best memories on a football field.”
